EFTA has built a strong team with a blend of experience from across the world and investment knowledge in Tanzania. EFTA currently has a team of over 60, drawing on Tanzanian talent from across the country.

Alan Mathers
CIO
Alan joined EFTA in 2016. He previously spent over 20 years in the finance sector, most recently with Barclays Capital, and in management consulting, where he focused on the delivery of strategic change programs. Alan has a background in microfinance, having worked with Kiva in Zimbabwe and Kenya. Alan has a MA in Economics and French from St Andrews University, and a MBA from the London Business School.

Clerius Asiel
Commercial Sales Manager
Clerius joined EFTA in 2020. He previously spent over 10 years in the Banking sector with First National Bank, Stanbic Bank and Standard Chartered Bank. He has held different positions both in retail and commercial banking in various roles including business analyst, risk management, relationship management, product development and customer experience solutions focused on decision making and opportunity identification through data and market insight. Clerius has a BA in Business Management from Greenwich University.

Coy Buckley
CEO
Coy has been with EFTA for five years, acting as the CFO prior to becoming the CEO in 2014. Before joining EFTA, Coy worked with KPMG in various capacities, including transaction and advisory services in Zurich and the U.S. capital markets desk in London. Coy has been a featured speaker on leasing in Tanzania at the World Bank, FMO and International Finance Corporation. He has also consulted with Technoserve on their agricultural finance programs in West Africa, as well as the Millennium Cities Initiative’s activities in Ghana.

Elias Leasa
Senior Operations Manager
Elias has been working with EFTA since January 2014. Prior to EFTA, Elias worked as Project Manager for Empower Tanzania Inc., an american NGO based in Tanzania. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Dodoma.

Emmanuel Richard
Head of Internal Audit
Emmanuel joined EFTA in June 2020 as Head of Internal Audit. Most recently, he worked with VisionFund Tanzania Microfinance Bank Ltd as the Head of Internal Audit and Investigations for more than six years. Prior to that he worked with the Pan African Auditors as External Auditor, with PRIDE Tanzania Ltd as the Senior Internal Auditor, and with PRIDE Rural Financing Window as the Head of Internal Audit. He is a member of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) Tanzania, an Associate Certified Public Accountant in Public Practice (ACPA-PP 3912), and is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) (Registration # 1860559). Currently he is finalizing his MBA from ESAMI Arusha.

Goodluck Philipo
Credit Manager
Goodluck joined EFTA in 2015 as an Investment Officer in our Mbeya branch. He moved to the EFTA head office at Moshi as a Senior Operations Officer in 2017 and became the Credit Manager in 2019. Prior to joining EFTA he worked with FINCA microfinance bank for four year as a Loan Supervisor. He has experience in lending and business analysis. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Agriculture Economics and Agribusiness from Sokoine University of Agriculture.

Josh Clark
COO
Josh joined EFTA in 2017 as COO. Before joining EFTA, Josh worked in customer service and operations for more than 10 years at a large industrial supplier in the U.S. He holds a MA in the Philosophy of Religion and Ethics from Biola University and a MBA from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Lazaro Shimwelah
Morogoro Branch Manager
Prior to EFTA, Lazaro worked at Opportunity International Tanzania, where he held different positions including Branch Manager-Iringa (launched the branch), Zonal manager (SAGCOT), Agriculture Financing manager and Head of Collections. Before that he held a number of other positions at YETU Microfinance Bank PLC including Senior Credit Officer and Branch Manager-Zanzibar. Lazaro also worked as a Consultant at Mbinga Community Bank PLC in Ruvuma. He is a BCom -Finance graduate from KCA University in Nairobi – Kenya.

Leonce Malamsha
Special Loans Manager
Prior to EFTA, Leonce was working with Barclay’s Bank as Arusha Branch Manager. Before that he held a number of other positions at Barclays and Standard Chartered. He has an Advance Diploma in Certified Accountancy from Mzumbe University and an MBA from ESAMI Arusha.

Maria Wambura
Arusha Section Manager
Maria joined EFTA in January 2014 as an investment officer and in 2018 became Section Manager leading EFTA leasing activities in the Arusha, Manyara and Simanjiro regions. Prior to that Maria was a procurement intern at TBL and conducted volunteering activities in Tanzania, Uganda, and Nigeria with international student organizations. Maria holds a BBA from Mzumbe University and a MS in Finance and Investment from Coventry University. She is also a Certified Procurement and Supplies Professional CPSP (T).

Moses Mazoya
Mbeya Section Manager
Moses joined EFTA in 2017 as an Investment Officer in our Mbeya branch and became the Section Manager in 2020. Prior to joining EFTA he worked with Finca Microfinance Bank for four years as a Small Enterprises Loan Analyst. He has experience in lending and business analysis. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Cooperative Management and Accounting from Sokoine University of Agriculture.

Mussa Mwachaga
Financial Controller
Mussa joined EFTA in June 2020 as Financial Controller. Prior to joining EFTA, Mussa worked as General Manager Finance at Bank of Africa Tanzania for 9 years, heading up the Tanzanian Finance function. Previously Mussa spent 5 years at CRDB Plc as a Bank Officer. Mussa is a certified public accountant and holds an Advance Diploma in Accountancy from Mzumbe University.

Peter Temu
Marketing and Business Development Manager
Prior to EFTA, Peter was Managing Partner at Inops Tanzania, a marketing and advertising firm. Before this, he held positions as Content Manager at Zoom Tanzania, Senior Sales and Marketing Executive at South African Airways and Head of Credit Control Unit at Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation. He has an MBA from Amity University.

Sarunny Saibull
Operations Manager
Sarunny joined EFTA in 2012 as an investment officer and in 2015 became Training Manager responsible for staff development and customer training. In 2017 she became the Operations Manager taking on additional procurement and operations responsibilities. Prior to joining EFTA, Sarunny worked as a peer education coordinator for Global Service Corps for three years. She holds an Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Logistics Management, a Certificate in Public Procurement and Supplies and completes her MBA from ESAMI in 2018.

Coy Buckley
Managing Director
Coy has been with EFTA for five years, acting as the CFO prior to becoming the CEO in 2014. Michiel Timmerman
Chairman
Michiel Timmerman co-founded EFTA Ltd in 2005. Michiel is CEO of Mbuyu Capital Partners, an Africa-focused investment business. Before founding Mbuyu, Michiel was MD and Chief Investment Officer of Ignis Advisors, Ignis Asset Management’s $3.5bn alternative investment business, investing in hedge funds, private equity and real estate. He is also a non-executive director of two AgDevCo Ltd, an African agriculture investor, and of LAFCo Ltd, which finances working capital for SMEs in the African agriculture sector.
Clement Kwayu
Director
Clement is Co-Founder and Director of EFTA. Clement also acts as Managing Director of BUMACO, EFA’s partner in Tanzania. BUMACO is a well-established management consultancy and insurance brokerage business, with offices in Moshi (Kilimanjaro region) and Dar es Salaam. Clement is a specialist in co-operatives and rural development and founded BUMACO in 1982.
James de la Fargue
Director
James is a Zimbabwean citizen with a BA (Hons) Business Administration and ACCA, who worked in Europe for several years with Unilever PLC, Deloitte and the French group Chargeurs SA. In Zimbabwe, he was head of corporate finance at Merchant Bank of Central Africa (MBCA). James has extensive experience in both agriculture and financial services in the region, serving on the boards of NMB Bank and African Century Leasing in Zimbabwe and several companies in Mozambique.
Sean Carey
Director
Sean is Associate Director at AgDevCo and he is responsible for certain new and existing investments across the AgDevCo portfolio. Sean joined AgDevCo’s London office from an alternative investment business, focusing on renewable energy, infrastructure and other real asset investments. Sean previously worked for Ernst & Young focussing on multinational mining, renewable energy and oil & gas engagements in various countries. Sean grew up in South Africa and graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Business Science degree specialising in finance and management and is also a chartered accountant (CA).
Simeon Galpert
Director
Simeon is an accountant, and has held senior finance and treasury positions at major companies including Guinness, Saatchi & Saatchi and WPP. He was most recently Director of Treasury, Tax and Risk Management at Guinness, before becoming an independent consultant. He has also undertaken consulting work for the IFC in East Africa on small business investment and performance monitoring.
